Negri QUADRIO Valtellina Superiore DOCG 0,375
Valtellina Superiore DOCG
Product by: Casa vinicola Nino Negri
Varieties: 90% chiavennasca, the local name for nebbiolo - 10% merlot.
Vineyards: The grapes grow in the best plots of Upper Valtellina, at an altitude of 350-500 metres on the slopes of the Retiche Alps, between Berbenno and Teglio, along the right bank of the River Adda. The vineyards are south-facing and are cultivated using the modified Guyot method with arched canes in shallow, loose-textured, silty-sandy soil for a yield of 70 quintals of grapes per hectare.
Vinification and maturation: The riper bunches with higher sugar content were harvested at the end of September and underwent a traditional red vinification with a 12-days maceration on the skins in the must; fermentation takes place at 28°-25°C in stainless steel vats with pumping over done by automatic sprayers. The wine matures for 20 months in 80-hl casks of Slavonian oak and in 50hl casks of French oak in the cellars of Castello Quadrio.
The wine: Dark garnet red in color; this wine offers very pronounced, ethereal aromas with delicate notes of berry fruit, a grassy nuance and sensations of raspberry jam, rose and violet. The palate is dry, full and vigorous with elegant tannins and a long, lingering finish.
