In Valtellina there are magnificent terraced vineyards on the south side of the Rhaetian Alps. This scenary is an unique and fascinating landscape that stretches for 40 km. The altitude of vineyards usually arrive until of 800 m above sea level. The Alps protect the screw from the cold winds of the North and those hot and humid from the South. The strong mountain sun achieves excellent levels of ripeness of the grapes. Center of this prestigious viticulture is Chiuro where there are the Balgera Cellars. The Patriot Maurizio Quadrio, statesman, politician and lieutenant Giuseppe Mazzini, lived in Chiuro, where today operate Balgera winery. One of the founders of this company, Balgera Leone, improved the production and theexport. His son Gianfranco built new cellars evolving and improving techniques of production, aging and bottling. Today his son Paolo continues the work of winemaker. He works in the name of tradition, the ancient "how to make wine", with a continuous improvement of winemaking techniques.
