Triacca PRESTIGIO Valtellina Superiore DOCG
Valtellina Superiore D.O.C.G.
Product by: Casa Vinicola Triacca S.A.
A top-class wine, backed up by the entire prestige of Triacca. Made from grapes which have been allowed to dry out slightly on the vine, it is matured in small oak barrels for 15 months. In spite of its immense power, the wine manages to be both elegant and subtle. Wine and wood flavours are well integrated, the fruit tightly structured. There are hints of vanilla and dried fruits. Small oak barrels permit greater contact between wine and wood. There is also increased oxygen filtering through the wood. Both factors speed up and intensify wine maturation. The small barrels (known as «barriques» in Bordeaux with a capacity of 225 litres, and as «pièces» in Burgundy where they hold 3 litres more) leave an unmistakeable stamp on the wine’s taste. This is due to the tannins in the wood, especially in oak. Generally, new or up to three year-old barrels are used. Older than that, they lose their flavour.
